MountsEdit

Mounts are companions the player may acquire that provide mobility, protection, and extra damage.

The only way that you can buy them is by doing a side quest in Orcish Byway. You learn of the quest from a girl standing in a pillar of light. Talk to her, and go to her brother. He will give you a map that leads you to Mount Island, where you will encounter an Orc Shaman Merchant. He will ask you to complete 3 quests on the island, increasing in difficulty from tiny T-beings to large T-mutant trolls, hydras, griffons, and ents. After completing his quests you can purchase a mount!

While horses are always available from Mount Traders (see below), each character class has a unique mount as well. The table below explains:

Character Class Specialized Mount
Seraphim Sabertooth Tiger
High Elf Wind Serpent
Dryad Monitor Lizard
Temple Guardian Monowheel
Shadow Warrior Hellhound
Inquisitor Shroud Spider
Dragon Mage Draconicon

DeitiesEdit

The world of Ancaria is under the auspices of supernatural beings of terrible wrath, and harmonious love. The player must choose to align themselves with the Light or the Shadow, and choose to serve a deity within either polarity. Every deity grants the player a unique power, known as a Divine Gift, that they may use to aid them in their quest. There are six deities available, their names and Divine Gifts are explained below

Lumen

Campaign of Light. Lumen is the God of Light. When called upon, He grants the ability to shoot lightning bolts from your hands. These bolts stun opponents, incite burning, and cause massive amounts of damage. Lumen's Divine Gift requires 15 minutes to recharge.

Kybele

Campaign of Light. Kybele is the Goddess of Nature. When called upon, She heals the player, and grants increased hitpoint regeneration. While under Kybele's blessing life recovers, making the player nearly immortal. Kybele's Divine Gift requires 15 minutes to recharge.

Forens

Campaign of Light. Forens is the God of Philosophy. When called upon, He covers the player in a powerful shield that reflects all incoming damage, causing enemies to harm themselves for a time. Forens Divine Gift requires 15 minutes to recharge.

Testa

Campaign of Shadows. Testa is the God of Science. When called upon, He grants the player the ability to utilize T-Energy spheres that heal allied units, and inflinct massive damage on enemies. Testa's Divine Gift requires 20 minutes to recharge.

Kuan

Campaign of Shadows. Kuan is the God of War. When called upon, He casts a spell of confusion over the battlefield, causing everybody but the player to begin attacking the nearest target, whether friend or foe. Kuan's Divine Gift requires 20 minutes to recharge.

Ker

Campaign of Shadows. Ker is the Goddess of Chaos. When called upon, She sends the monstrous, shackled, fire-demon Sakarra to destroy everyone on the field of battle. Everyone. Ker's Divine Gift requires 30 minutes to recharge.

Side QuestsEdit

Throughout Ancaria there are 600 unique side quests that you can explore.

A completed side quest will be rewarded with experience, sometimes money, and occasionally items. The lower your character's level, the less experience a completed quest will award you. This is because of the game mechanics. A low level character does not need much EXP to level up, nor do their weapons and armor cost a lot. As your character's level increases, the reward (both in gold and experience) will dramatically increase.

So, instead of fighting monsters to level up, try a side quest or two.

LootEdit

As with all RPGs, the world of Ancaria is full of attainable loot that the player may collect.

Loot can be acquired in a number of ways: by defeating enemies, by completing quests, by searching containers, and by exploring the landscape for hidden treasures. Loot comes in a variety of forms

EXP (experience) Adances the players level and skills
Gold Used to buy and sell goods with shopkeepers
Armor Used to defend the player
Weapons Used to attack the enemy
Relics Adds elemental defense to the player's stats
Rings Enhances weapon and armor abilities
Amulets Enhances weapon and armor abilities
Damage Modifyers Adds elemental damage to weapons
Runestones Effects the strength and regeneration of Combat Arts
Shrunken Head Grants weapon and armor bonues to Dryads
Battery Increases Temple Guardian's arm-blaster power

Loot may be kept in the player's personal inventory, or within the Player Chest/Carrier Imp (see below). All loot is sellable, and can be traded and sold to Merchants, Rune Masters, and Blacksmiths. A note to all players, whether on the console, or the PC, neither the player inventory, nor the Player Chest are infinite, so be ever aware of how much loot you hold on to.

Rings and AmuletsEdit

Throughout the game the player will collect a variety of special items called rings and amulets. These can be won as loot during battle, discovered in chests, pots, barrels, wells, and fountains, bought from merchants and blacksmiths, or uncovered by simply exploring the wilderness of Ancaria.

Both rings/amulets are useful in enhancing skills, qualities, and powers. They may be equipped like armor, or forged into weapon slots. Both rings and amulets are diverse in nature, and may be found in many forms, such as: rings, signet rings, and hoops (for rings), and amulets, pendants, and talismans (for amulets). The table below includes some, but not all, of the aspects that rings and amulets might enhance:

Ring / Amulet Ring / Amulet Ring / Amulet
Attack Speed Attack Value Attack/Defense Value
Chance to Evade Chance to Find Valuables Combat Art Increase
Constitution Damage: Fire Damage: Ice
Damage: Magic Damage: Physical Damage: Poison
Defense Value Defensive Skills Dexterity
Divine Devotion Enhanced Perception Hafted Weapons
Hitpoint Regeneration Intelligence Magic Staffs
Maximum Hitpoints Movement Speed Offensive Skills
Pole Arms Ranged Weaponds Selling Price
Stamina Strength Sword Weapons
Visibility Vitality Willpower

Rare and more valuable rings and amulets might enhance multiple areas, such as: increasing Strength and  Attack Speed; or adding skill-points to Visibility and Sword Weapons. The player may also find special rings and amulets, like the Ring of Life, the Ring of the Winds, the Assassin's Ring, or the Amulet of Testa, that greatly enhance particular skills or qualities.

Rings and Amulets can also be forged into Silver (ring) and Gold (ring or amulet) slots on applicable weapons by visiting a Blacksmith. When a ring/amulet is forged the weapon will acquire the stats the ring/amulet holds. These stats are only available when the player equips the ring-forged weapon.

When worn as armor, the player can equip any 2 rings, and a single amulet.

RelicsEdit

Relics, like rings and amulets, can be found as loot throughout Ancaria. Relics offer protection against non-physical damage, including Fire, Ice, Magic, and Poison. Unlike a ring or an amulet though, a relic cannot be equipped in the armor slot, or forged into a weapon. Instead, the player is given a separate widget where they may equip a limited number of relics.

When played on a console, the player may utilize up to 6 relics at a time, but no more than 3 of any single type, for example: 3 green relics, 1 red relic, and 2 purple relics. When playing on the PC, the player may utilize up to 12 relics, but only 3 at a time will count toward the players defense. For this reason, it is wise on the PC to either mix strong relics together, or, divide the 12 slots into quarters, and equip 3 of each kind of relic (3 red, 3 blue, 3 purple, 3 green respectively), and simply alternate between them when necessary.

Looted relics may appear as circular, triangular, or pentagonal, and be called either relic, beveled, or hallowed. The shape and title of the relic is purely aesthetic, as any shape/title may offer protection against an element from 1 to 50 points. The following table outlines the available relic types:

Red Relics Blue Relics Purple Relics Green Relics
Relic of Fire Relic of Ice Relic of Magic Relic of Poison
Beveled Relic of Fire Beveled Relic of Ice Beveled Relic of Magic Beveled Relic of Poison
Hallowed Relic of Fire Hallowed Relic of Ice Hallowed Relic of Magic Hallowed Relic of Poison

As with rings and amulets, a relic of a higher level than the player cannot be utilized until their hero advances high enough. For this reason, it is wise to save powerful relics in the Player Chests, so that your other hero-characters might utilize them as they level up.

MerchantEdit

A Merchant is an individual who buys and sells wares. They can be found in every town, and at numerous camps throughout Ancaria. Merchants will buy any and all of your armor, weapons, rings, amulets, relics, and potions. In return, they all sell armor, weapons, rings, amulets, relics, and potions which can be acquired for gold.

BlacksmithEdit

A Blacksmith is an artisan who sells armor, and improves both weapons and armor. Blacksmiths can be found throughout Ancaria, most commonly in large cities.

By bringing a customizable weapon to a Blacksmith, the player can add skills and effects their weapon otherwise lacks. Weapons and armor have sockets that dictate what kind of bonus a Blacksmith might add. These sockets are:

Slot Color Forging Capability
Bronze Runestones, Blacksmith Arts
Silver Runstones, Blacksmith Arts, Rings
Gold Runstones, Blacksmith Arts, Rings, Amulets
Platinum Damage Modifiers

Blacksmith Arts are unique skill combinations that can only be found at the shop. They are dual-effect bonuses that greatly enhance the power and potency of a weapon. There are 3 Blacksmith Arts, they are as follows:

Blacksmith Art Special Effect
Whet Increases the damage and attack values of the weapon
Anneal Increases the player's defeanse and armor value
Enhance

Decreases regeneration time, increases critical hit chance

Platinum sockets allow the player to equip elemental damage modifiers to their weapons. The weapon will radiate depending on what modifier is forged into the platinum socket. The overview is below:

Damage Modifier Elemental Damage
Ice Crystal Ice damage, weapon is frosted
Lava Chunk Fire damage, weapon is aflame
Magic Pearl Magic damage, weapon exudes energy
Poison Fang Poison damage, weapon glows green

Rune MasterEdit

A Rune Master is a merchant who specialized in runestones. They can be found in market places across Ancaria.

When looting you will frequently collect runestones that your character cannot use, these may be traded to a Rune Master in order to obtain a runestone your character can use. If 4 runestones are exchanged, along with 500 gold, a runestone of your choice will be given in return.

Mount TraderEdit

Mount Traders can be found in towns where mounts are available. (NOTE: You can only get horses from these mount traders. If you want your unique mount, look at the "Mounts" section up above).

Player Chest and Carrier ImpEdit

Player chests are found in major towns like Sloeford and Thylysium, or special locations like the quest "Powers in Norriath's Corcer" throughout Ancaria.

On the console version a Player Chest can store all of the excess inventory that the player cannot carry with them. While in the Player Chest menu, Press RT (or R2) or LT (or L2) to switch from the chest's inventory, to the hero's inventory.

On the PC version a Player Chest has a limited storage capacity, but can also be called to the hero as his/her Carrier Imp. While in the chest the player can switch between personal belongings, and shared belongings, each of which can store any excess inventory.

The Player Chest and the Shared Belongings of the Carrier Imp can be accessed by all of the player's characters.

Since the end of March 2012, the Carrier Imp no longer works on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

Teleporters and Resurrection MonolithsEdit

Teleporters are found throughout Ancaria, usually in big cities like Sloeford and Thylysium, or other important areas like the Forgotten Gardens and the Celestial Dome. When viewing the full map you may transfer to any active teleporter. To activate a teleporter simply visit the city/building it is in.

Resurrection Monoliths are found along the roads of Ancaria. They serve as teleportation points, as well as respawn locations for when your character has died. Be warned though, as only a single Resurrection Monolth may be activate at a time.

In Multiplayer mode the player may teleport to their allies at anytime, without hesitation.

BossesEdit

Throughout the game you will encounter a series of bosses, such as: Gar' Collosus, Octagolamus, and the Carnach. There are also several minibosses that a hero may encounter as they travel through Ancaria, such as: The White Griffon, the Blood Claw, and the Raging Boar.

Both bosses and minibosses have more health, defense, and attack than the bandits, Kobolds, pirates, and animal adversaries encountered throughout Ancaria. As such, they are more difficult battles, and it often requires strategic planning in order to defeat them.

Additionally, if you choose Ker, the goddess of chaos, as your deity, your divine gift will be the ability to summon Sakarra, a towering fire-demon who will assault your enemies. When all enemies are defeated though, Sakarra will turn on the player, becoming a rampaging miniboss who will stalk the player until it is defeated.

QuotesEdit

  • Guard: "Victory!"
  • Dryad: "What did the old man say? Fly you fools!"
  • Seraphim: "I will go down proudly!"
